URSA Z655

The Bomet URSA Z655 is a single-row vibrating potato digger from the Polish manufacturer Bomet, designed to lift potatoes from the soil while discharging the harvested potatoes to the side of the machine. Its operating principle relies on a vibrating screen that separates potatoes from soil as the machine moves along the row, after which the potatoes are thrown sideways onto the surface, ready for manual or mechanized collection. Working width is 560 mm, matched to standard row spacing used in potato growing. Maximum working depth is 200 mm, sufficient for lifting potatoes planted at typical depth. The machine is driven via the tractor's power take-off shaft at 540 rpm, standard for this class of implement. Operation requires a tractor of just 7.5 kW, or 10 HP, making the URSA Z655 accessible even to the smallest farm tractors and higher-power two-wheel tractors. The machine weighs 245 kg. Compared to the related URSA Z655/1 model in the same range, which discharges potatoes to the rear instead of to the side, the Z655 has a greater working width (560 mm vs. 450 mm) and a higher weight (245 kg vs. 135 kg), while lifting depth and required tractor power are identical for both models. Side discharge, unlike rear discharge, makes it easier to collect the potatoes clear of the tractor's wheel track and the machine's next pass, which is particularly useful on longer rows where collection happens gradually, in parallel with the digger's progress. Its simple, compact construction with no moving parts beyond the vibrating screen makes this digger a reliable and easily maintained solution for smaller and medium farms growing potatoes on modest plots.
