URSA Z655/1

The Bomet URSA Z655/1 is a single-row vibrating potato digger from the Polish manufacturer Bomet, designed to lift potatoes from the soil while discharging them to the rear of the machine, unlike the side discharge of the related URSA Z655 model. Its operating principle relies on a vibrating screen that separates potatoes from soil as the machine moves along the row, after which the potatoes remain behind the machine on the already-worked section of the row, ready for collection. Working width is 450 mm, somewhat narrower than the side-discharge model, in line with its simpler, more compact construction. Maximum working depth is 200 mm, the same as the Z655 model. The machine is driven via the tractor's power take-off shaft at 540 rpm. It mounts to the tractor via a 3-point hitch, category I, standard for smaller tractors. Operation requires a tractor of just 7.5 kW, or 10 HP, identical to the Z655 model. The machine weighs just 135 kg, considerably less than the side-discharge model (245 kg), thanks to its simpler construction without a side-directing mechanism for the potatoes. The lower weight makes this model easier to handle, mount and transport, and better suited to lighter tractors where rear-linkage lift capacity is a limiting factor. Rear discharge, unlike side discharge, is convenient when collection happens directly behind the digger in a single pass, without needing to move the potatoes over from the side of the row afterward. Its compact, light construction makes the URSA Z655/1 particularly suited to smaller households and garden plots where potatoes are grown for personal use.
